Device

Laser therapy is not a new science. What is new is that state of the art technology combined with modern manufacturing techniques has enabled the Equi-laser to be produced in a small, convenient to use and portable device.  For the first time Low Level Laser Therapy is now available and affordable for everyone.

The Equi-laser works by utilising low level (cold) laser energy to treat the affected area.  When the Equi-laser is applied to the damaged tissue it triggers a biological response causing stimulation of the immune, lymphatic, vascular and neural systems.

The result of this stimulation is reduced inflammation, pain relief and faster healing.

The Equi-laser is designed to help relieve pain and improve and accelerate healing for various conditions including:

  • Soft tissue injuries
  • Acute ligament and tendon injuries
  • Chronic injuries such as bowed tendons
  • Arthritic conditions
  • Joint injuries
  • Pulled and strained muscles
  • Mud fever
  • Splints, scar tissue, proud flesh and wound healing
  • Cracked bones and fractures that are not misaligned

The Equi-laser promotes the natural healing process of the body to enhance tissue repair and alleviate pain enabling the horse to recover more rapidly from injury.

After treatment the affected area will be warm and the effect of promoting blood circulation will be increased.  The thermal effect on the muscle tissues and the improved blood circulation lead to pain relief and will stimulate the body's recovery system to improve the effectiveness of the treatment.

How is it powered?

The Equi-laser can be powered either by mains electricity using the supplied plug adaptor or by a single 9 volt alkaline battery.  Therefore there is no need for extension leads or trailing wires that may unnerve or frighten the horse.  Also being totally portable the Equi-laser can be taken to competitions, events and race meetings so that in the event of an injury treatment can commence immediately.

The recommended treatment cycle is 10 minutes and the device will automatically switch off after that time.  The Equi-laser is compact and lightweight making it easy to carry and use.

A supporting belt is provided which can be used to hold the Equi-laser in position on certain parts of the horse.  However, caution and due consideration must be given to the temperament of the horse and to the location of the area to be treated.  The horse must not be left unattended during treatment to avoid the patient harming itself or damage to the equipment.

Usage

The recommended treatment cycle for most conditions is 10 minutes repeated daily for 7 to 10 days and then, depending on the severity of the condition, every other day until the horse/condition shows signs of responding. Certain chronic conditions (eg arthritis) may benefit from less frequent treatment cycles on an ongoing basis.

Side Effects

Current research suggests that there should be no adverse side effects resulting from the correct administration of Low Level Light Therapy using the Equi-laser.  Occasionally, especially in horses with chronic problems, there may be an increase in discomfort for a short period after treatment.  This is due to the body re-establishing new equilibrium points and is a phenomenon that occurs as part of the normal process of recovery.

Although there are no harmful effects caused by normal use of the Equi-laser, the product is not intended to replace the advice of the veterinary surgeon.  If there is the slightest doubt as to the nature of the condition or injury a veterinary surgeon's advice should be sought before any treatment is carried out.
